Özet

The study focuses on the last period of the Ottoman Empire, which corresponds to the beginning periods of Turkish children’s magazines. When we look at the literature, it is seen that almost all of the studies on children’s magazines of the period focused on magazines written in Ottoman Turkish. In addition, it is noteworthy that while there are studies in a single journal, comparative studies are given much less place. However, the last period of the Ottoman Empire has a multicultural social structure. To better analyze this structure, it is thought that it will be effective to apply comparative work analysis. For this purpose, the journal Mümeyyiz (1869-1870), which was published for Muslim Turkish children, and the journals called Angeliaforos Çocuklar İçün, which was published for Christian Turkish children (Karaman people), were examined comparatively. Our work; aims to reveal the multicultural social life, the elements that make up the Ottoman Empire and the sociological structure of the period, human relations, and the effect of the social and political structure on children’s magazines. In our study, the document analysis method was applied. The obtained results were presented comparatively way and discussed in light of the data in the literature. Contexts such as value-culture transfer, genuine children’s book authorship, political children’s book authorship, and subject-object children’s literature were determined for the comparison criteria of the journals. Study; both of the examined journals are far from today’s modern children’s literature priorities, but they are successful in serving the purposes of the periods in which they were published. According to the results of the research, both Angeliaforos Çocuklar İçün and Mümeyyiz magazine show a didactic approach to raising a religious, knowledgeable, and moral generation. However, Angeliaforos Çocuklar İçün is based on Christian teachings, while Mumeyyiz is based on the Muslim faith.
